I have come across many Mormons who seem to think we are saved by our works. Often, while discussing this idea with me, they use 2 Ne 25:23 as support for their position<\/p>\n

For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can\u00c2\u00a0do.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I guess one interpretation of this could be that we partly save ourselves, then Jesus does the rest.<\/p>\n

I came across Alma 22:14 the other day, which seems to paint a differnet picture:<\/p>\n

since man had fallen he could not merit anything of himself; but the sufferings and death of Christ atone for their sins<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Aaron teaches that it is impossible for us to do anything on our own, and the only redemption we can receive is through Christ.<\/p>\n

I think Paul may have been onto something when he wrote in Ephesians 2 that it is \u201cby grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.\u201d<\/p>\n

Which brings us back to Nephi\u2019s words in my first quote. What does he mean when he says we are saved by grace after all we can do if we can merit nothing of ourselves? What is \u201call we can do\u201d?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
