Yesterday, our ward sang Jesus, Once of Humble Birth<\/em> for our Sacrament Hymn.<\/p>\n

Generally, I really try to pay attention to pay attention to the words we sing, so I can get something personal out of the hymn. I often fail at it though. Yesterday, I\u00c2\u00a0succeeded.<\/p>\n

I really like the contrast used throughout the hymn (e.g.\u00c2\u00a0humility\u00c2\u00a0vs glorification), but there were a couple of instances that impressed me for some reason.<\/p>\n

For example,<\/p>\n

Once rejected by his own\u00e2\u20ac\u201dNow their king he shall become.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t it ironic that the very people who rejected Jesus as their King will one day be his subjects?<\/p>\n

Another line:<\/p>\n

Once forsaken, left alone<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This line really struck me. His apostles abandoned him; his father forsook him. Perhaps this one struck me as it did because of\u00c2\u00a0parallels\u00c2\u00a0to my own experience<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Finally, the last two lines of the hymn:<\/p>\n

Once all things he meekly bore\u00e2\u20ac\u201d
\nBut he now will bear no more<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

What a fitting end to this hymn. The hymn is all about Jesus\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s triumph over mortality, over grief, pain, blood, tears,\u00c2\u00a0crucifixion, and rejection. These last two lines enapsulate that entire idea.<\/p>\n

And the hymn gives us hope that one day we too will triumph all.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
