The idea is to encourage less energy use, but still make it affordable for citizens to pay for it.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what he is proposing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$10 tax\/tonne of gas emissions in first year<\/li>\n<li>$40\/tonne by 4th year<\/li>\n<li>Lowest tax bracket from 15% to\t13.5%<\/li>\n<li>Middle\ttax bracket from 22%\tto 21% (first in years)<\/li>\n<li>Highest tax bracket from\t26%\tto 25%<\/li>\n<li>General corporate income-tax rate cut by one percentage point  by 4th year<\/li>\n<li>Small businesses receive an additional cut of one percentage point<\/li>\n<li>Tax breaks for green technologies and research and development<\/li>\n<li>Child tax benefit of $350\/child, on top of the existing child benefit<\/li>\n<li>$150 annual credit to rural residents<\/li>\n<li>$200 annual tax breaks for northern residents<\/li>\n<li>$1 billion contingency fund to help charities and others with unexpected cost increases<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Who pays:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>8.2% increase in home heating-oil up costs in 4th year<\/li>\n<li>4.9% increase in diesel costs<\/li>\n<li>8.4% increase in propane costs<\/li>\n<li>95?\u00c7\u00ac\u00a2 price increase for gas barbecue propane tank<\/li>\n<li>$203 increase in average energy bill of a home heated by oil<\/li>\n<li>$266 increase in average energy bill of a home heated by natural gas<\/li>\n<li>$1,380 tax break to cover energy costs for a family of four earning $80,000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thoughts?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So, Stephan Dion has promised a huge tax plan if he gets elected as prime minister in the next federal &hellip;
