Helps that they had four distinct personalities contributing to the creative process.

Elvis didn’t write his own songs and The Beach Boys only had Brian Wilson creating until the pressure got too much.

But to choose between those…I would say Elvis probably. And not because I think he was better, but because I think he was more of a real legend in the eyes of so many. But the Beatles come very close.

True, they did have inane hits like “She Loves You” but they also had thinking man’s hits like “Eleanor Rigby.” For the most part I think their tunes and their lyrics are intellectually and artistically richer.
