  1. To be fair, temples were also announced for:

    • Cordoba, Argentina
    • Greater Kansas City, USA
    • Philidelphia, USA
    • Rone, Italy
  2. Elder Perry spoke on simplifying our lives.

Sister Allred spoke on her conversion, her missionary efforts, and missionary work in general.

  3. Elder Oaks’s comment on white shirts reminds me of a deacon who wore regularly a black shirt with flames along the bottom.

  4. Account of 7-year-old Clinn D. Barrie seeing an what he thought was an angel after nearly drowning near at dark.

  5. A Calgary Temple!

    Thank goodness

No more boring drives to Edmonton or Cardston

  6. Wade, Calgary to Cardston is nothing. Try living in Prince George or Winnipeg stakes. :)

When I lived in Regina, it was a 8 hour trip one way to do baptisms in Cardston. :)

  7. More important of course is that we have a temple as well as Edmonton. It was so embarrassing to have most of the money in the Province but still no House of the Lord.

  8. I have a feeling the chose Calgary because it has six stakes. I don’t think it had anything to do with municipal wealth.

  9. Elder Caussé was serving as an area authority seventy when called to the first quorum of the seventy in April. He had served as stake president in Paris until 2007, and is the first general authority from France.

  10. Elder Corbridge speaking on the standard of God. He was called to the first quorum of the seventy in April, like Caussé and Aidukaitis, who spoke earlier today.

  11. Kim I was referring primarily to the inter-city rivalry, rather than tithing. In any event my ancestors who settled Cardston would be astounded to have 3 temples in the province.

My ex stake President now Seventy showed the Rocky Ridge site to Pres. Faust several years ago who said that a Temple would fit nicely right there.

    N.W. Calgary off Crowchild Trail.

  12. Elder Christofferson talking about about charity. I liked the story of a ward member cutting his table in half so another family could have a table. Not sure if I’d ever do something like that.

  13. Priesthood session

MTC Choir performed “I Would Follow Thee” after the prayer. Their rendition prompted me to realize I need to do a better job at loving others, particularly my quorum members.

  14. Elder Scott:

    • Live worthily to receive the power of the priesthood
    • Do we partake in substances in conflict with the intent of the Word of Wisdom?
    • Are we mentally faithful to our wives?
    • Do we lead out in spiritual activities (prayer, scriptures, etc)
    • Is our marriage an equal partnership
    • Leaders should give equal consideration in marriage counselling to wives as they do to the husbands
    • You shouldn’t have to lose the priesthood to appreciate it.
  15. Elder Jensen spoke on arms of safety.

Elder Hamula was next. He was one of the seventy who were called in April. He is officially one of my favourite speakers.

    • Young men are the Lord’s warriors
    • Nothing can overthrow God’s kingdom except the transgression of his people
    • Be sober
    • Pray earnestly and regularly. Learn the Lord’s voice. Obey the Lord’s word.
  16. President Uchtdorf:

    • Stand close together and lift where you stand

I hope I can inspire my quorum to do this, but I hope I can do a better job of it myself.

    • Some people in the church when asked to serve seek to lead or seek to hide.
    • Saviour always took time for the sick, sorrowful and overlooked.
    • Will the Lord care at Judgement Day how packed our schedules were on earth?
    • Told a story of John R. Moyle, a stonecutter
    • None of us should try moving the Lord’s work alone
    • Seek to inspire and cease to retire.
  17. President Eyring:

    • Wanted to address those feeling overwhelmed with their church service

I get the feeling this session was written for me.

    • The more faithful the service we perform, the more opportunities we receive
    • Increased spiritual strength comes when we are pushed to our limits
    • Story of missionary assigned to companions who were going to go home early

I need to see my brethren as not failing spiritually

  18. President Monson

    1. Learn what we should learn
    2. Do what we should do
    3. Be what we should be

And he sure loves using the passive voice.

  19. I’ve occasionally noticed before that addresses in General Conference seem to link together in important ways, even though the speakers are usually not given topical assignments. I’ve never noticed it quite so strongly, though, as in this conference. Some of the talks seemed to segue seamlessly into the next.

  20. Sunday morning thoughts:

    President Eyring spoke on unity.

    • Seek revelation
    • Be humble
    • Speak well of others
    • Be a peace maker
  21. Elder Hales

    • Use Christ’s example for responding to our critics
    • Respond to our accusers without accusing
    • Mentioned commenting on blogs
    • Our purpose is to help others understand truth, not satisfy egos
    • Learn respect for others
    • Sometimes it is better to just walk away
    • High ground is where we see the first light of morning and the last light of evening
    • We are not better than others
    • Answer with Christian courage
  22. Bishop McMullin

    • Love thy neighbour as thyself
    • Pay fast offering. Pray.
    • Story of Janice

Do I have faith to heal others?

  23. Sister Dalton

    • Return to virtue

I like how she implies virtue is not just about sexual purity

    • Virtuous people possess inner strength
    • Are we desensitized into thinking high standards are old fashioned?
    • Do we focus on flesh rather than faith?
    • Are we consumers of vice rather than defenders of virtue?
    • A return to virtue is possible.
  24. Elder Ballard

    • 1 million members in Mexico 4 years ago
    • in 1925, missionary work started in South America
    • 200,000 missionaries served under President Kimball; church doubled as well
    • Church has doubled since President Kimball’s death
    • 1 millionth missionary called last year
    • the Lord is asking us to fortify our faith, not push a handcart; cross the street, not the country
    • We cannot afford to be superficially righteous
  25. President Monson

    • 45 years since he was called as an apostle
    • No tomorrows to remember if we don’t do something today
    • Rather than dwelling in the past, we should be doing more here and now.
    • What is most important almost always involve those around us.

What would I say in only 25 words?

  26. Sunday afternoon notes

President Packer spoke on pioneers. Wore a mic even though he was standing. That was weird.

  27. Elder Nelson

    • Wise shoppers study their options to buy quality and price
    • Those wishing should do the same
    • The noblest yearning for the human heart is for a marriage that endures for a marriage that endures forever
    • Esteem spouse’s welfare among our highest priorities
    • Adversary’s options a;ways breed misery
    • Celestial marriage is the pivotal practise to prepare for eternal life
  28. Elder Oswald

    1. Teachers should know their students and address them by name
    2. Teach from the scriptures
    3. Encourage the pondering of gospel truths
  29. Elder Gavarret

Called in April. Sounds just like Pedro Sanchez.

    • Our house. Our home. Our refuge.
    • 1,700 families returned to church in Peru: in 14 stakes and 4 districts
    • Dear to the heart of the shepherd
