Calgary’s getting a temple!
To be fair, temples were also announced for:
Rome Italy, not Rone
True enough. See what I get for commenting with my iPod?
Elder Perry spoke on simplifying our lives.
Sister Allred spoke on her conversion, her missionary efforts, and missionary work in general.
Elder Anderson spoke on faith.
A notable line: faith and fear cannot dwell in the heart at the same time.
Elder Aidukaitis spoke of his pioneer father in Brazil.
Elder Oaks gave a very practical talk on Sacrament meeting. I like talks like this.
Elder Oaks is one of my favorite speakers for this very reason.
I agree, Justin. I enjoy his talks.
Elder Oaks’s comment on white shirts reminds me of a deacon who wore regularly a black shirt with flames along the bottom.
A great talk on hope by President Uchtdorf.
Afternoon session
My children stayed focused longer during the Primary choir than they had all morning.
Elder Wirthlin tells the best stories.
Elder Wirthlyn is teaching about good attitude.
Thanks, ronni. I liked his telling us that we shouldn’t take ourselves so seriously.
Elder Holland spoke on the roles of angels.
Account of 7-year-old Clinn D. Barrie seeing an what he thought was an angel after nearly drowning near at dark.
A Calgary Temple!
Thank goodness
No more boring drives to Edmonton or Cardston
Elder Caussé spoke about knowledge, one of by favourite topics.
Wade, Calgary to Cardston is nothing. Try living in Prince George or Winnipeg stakes. :)
When I lived in Regina, it was a 8 hour trip one way to do baptisms in Cardston. :)
More important of course is that we have a temple as well as Edmonton. It was so embarrassing to have most of the money in the Province but still no House of the Lord.
I have a feeling the chose Calgary because it has six stakes. I don’t think it had anything to do with municipal wealth.
Elder Caussé was serving as an area authority seventy when called to the first quorum of the seventy in April. He had served as stake president in Paris until 2007, and is the first general authority from France.
Elder Corbridge speaking on the standard of God. He was called to the first quorum of the seventy in April, like Caussé and Aidukaitis, who spoke earlier today.
Kim I was referring primarily to the inter-city rivalry, rather than tithing. In any event my ancestors who settled Cardston would be astounded to have 3 temples in the province.
My ex stake President now Seventy showed the Rocky Ridge site to Pres. Faust several years ago who said that a Temple would fit nicely right there.
N.W. Calgary off Crowchild Trail.
A nice spot indeed.
Elder Christofferson talking about about charity. I liked the story of a ward member cutting his table in half so another family could have a table. Not sure if I’d ever do something like that.
Elder Bednar is speaking about making sure we have morning prayer and evening prayer.
I bet he dyes his hair.
Priesthood session
MTC Choir performed “I Would Follow Thee” after the prayer. Their rendition prompted me to realize I need to do a better job at loving others, particularly my quorum members.
Elder Scott:
Elder Jensen spoke on arms of safety.
Elder Hamula was next. He was one of the seventy who were called in April. He is officially one of my favourite speakers.
President Uchtdorf:
I hope I can inspire my quorum to do this, but I hope I can do a better job of it myself.
President Eyring:
I get the feeling this session was written for me.
I need to see my brethren as not failing spiritually
President Monson
And he sure loves using the passive voice.
What a great morning in the conference center
I’ve occasionally noticed before that addresses in General Conference seem to link together in important ways, even though the speakers are usually not given topical assignments. I’ve never noticed it quite so strongly, though, as in this conference. Some of the talks seemed to segue seamlessly into the next.
Sunday morning thoughts:
President Eyring spoke on unity.
Elder Hales
Bishop McMullin
Do I have faith to heal others?
Sister Dalton
I like how she implies virtue is not just about sexual purity
Elder Ballard
President Monson
What would I say in only 25 words?
Sunday afternoon notes
President Packer spoke on pioneers. Wore a mic even though he was standing. That was weird.
Elder Nelson
Elder Oswald
Elder Gavarret
Called in April. Sounds just like Pedro Sanchez.
