Comments

Blogger has a new comment moderation feature that I have implemented. The plus side is that spam will no longer get through. The down side is that a user’s comment will not appear immediately unless s/he is a member of Our Thoughts. Usually, I am pretty quick with moderation, but when I am out or asleep, your message will not appear for a few hours.

It’s not a perfect system, but I think it is less intrusive than word verification.

  1. If you’re interested in my opinion (which you may not be) I think the word verification is easier to deal with. As a nonblogger depending on the kindness of moderators, I’d rather get my comment posted than have to wait for you to deal with it.

    Just my two cents.

  2. At the same time, I find it awkward to have to type in a completely different set of random characters each time I need to post.

That being said, when it comes to comments, there are generally two trains of thought (or so I have seen): those like you and those like me.

Personally, I think this way is better because it requires less effort on the part of the commenters (especially for people who comment a lot on a lot of blogs). Others consider instant gratification to be more important than having to type random letters.

  3. By the way, how do you find time to handle this? When I think of the time I squander just commenting on your blog, I can’t imagine how much time I would take trying to run such a thing!

    :)

  4. I receive an email when there is a new comment to approve. There are two links in the email: one to approve and one to reject. I simply click on one of them, and voilà, it’s done. Takes two seconds.
